Every writer wants to get those “clicks” on their content. These are readers that are not simply “driving by” the responses received from an internet query or search engine reply. Readers that stop long enough to take enough of an interest to click on content to learn more are what every reader searches for. There are ways that can assure, or at the very least, increase the percentage or chance a piece of material will be read before another writer’s content. The early bird catches the worm, but the best blog titles will capture the readers or get the clicks. Write great titles that get search engine clicks with the right techniques and information.
A title is worth a thousand words. This cannot be said enough. I have posted previous content surrounding this particular topic and its importance. I truly believe that a writer should have as much thought put into the title of their material as they do the written content with their byline.
Titles are what will drive a reader to want more. It will tell a reader whether or not the content they are searching for is contained within this information and make them click. A great one will urge a targeted audience, customer or reader directly to your content and make that click.
Great titles must deliver great material. Simply coming up with an extraordinary one for a mediocre piece of work isn’t going to be enough to gain a reader or build an audience. Make certain that terrific title matches or connects the reader with the marvelous information they want. When a reader finds excellence in the work they have selected a writer can rest assured they have not only gained a reader, but they have gained an addition to their audience.
These are several great tactics to incorporate when creating great titles. Using more than one of these for each piece of content would be great. However, simply approaching each title with one of these strategies should increase the number of readers for each piece of written work.
Increase the reader’s curiosity
Readers are generally searching through the web to find an answer to a question. This is the Who, What, Why or Where. Sometimes they want to know “how” or even “should”. Peak their curiosity with the title to your work.
Curiosity in creating titles is generally asking a question and having the reader click your material to locate an answer to satisfy the curiosity. For an example, “Should You Fly or Drive for Your Next Summer Vacation?” is a title worthy of clicks. The reader that wants to know will click your material to find out why or should.
Astonishing info in a title will also garner curiosity in readers. For a great example, “Is December 2012 the End of the World? “.
These are examples of titles where curiosity will not get the cat, but will get a reader to click your title.
Have something extra for the reader
The something extra referred to here is letting the reader know you have more than simply words. Although the written material is important, readers also enjoy something extra. Photos, polls, video and infographics get the attention when deciding which content to read. Although many writers already include these routinely with their material, let your reader know immediately with your title that they can find them here. Titles such as “Michael Jackson’s Last Photos” will gain some reader clicks.
Lists
Listing methods, techniques, modes or a number of nearly anything is a great title to increase clicks from readers. Readers enjoy lists. They want to know the Best 10 Things to Eat at the Fair. They sit up in the middle of the night because they simply have to know the 20 Best Middle Names for Baby Girls. Titles with lists are one of the easiest to create and will generate clicks for posts.
When you make list titles for your work use these words to get more clicks; benefits, tips, ways, signs, the best, the most.
Secrets
Sharing a secret or revealing a secret is a great way to engage a reader with material. Finding out something they didn’t know is great for gaining an audience. If you have the type of content that can work with this type of title creation, use it.
Words that work great when sharing secrets with readers include; secrets (use plural when possible), just like, cheat sheet, short cut.
General information surrounding titles should never be ignored or forgotten;
a. Shorter titles work better than longer titles. Keep the word count between 6 and 7
b. Social media should be used whenever possible. Search engines are great, but use social media to promote your reader clicks
c. Keywords and secondary keywords in the title are vitally important
d. Make certain the title produces the material it promises your reader.
Remember, impressive SEO along with great keywords and phrases put your material ahead of the pack. Having these tied to a great title will pull your substance to the front of the pack and make certain readers click on your material ahead of anyone else.
